Description

Some questions change everything. They arrive at the exact moment we’re ready to hear them—asked by someone who is listening deeply enough to meet the unknown with us. This course explores how such questions are formed, how they function, and how to recognize the moment they’re needed.

What we'll study

Peter Block and Cincinnati's A Small Group movement have named The Six Conversations that move people from disparate interest to shared co-creation: invitation, possibility, dissent, ownership, commitment, gifts. We'll take several passes through all six.

To undergird the 6 conversations, we'll draw on three teachers whose work helps us find presence:

  • Thomas Hubl — Attunement, Survival Intelligence, and the 3Sync Practice

  • Cynthia Bourgeault — Law of Three, and the Four Voices of Discernment

  • Parker Palmer — Clearness Committees (Quaker Circle Listening Practice)

Every session includes

  • Grounding

  • Field reports / journal reflection

  • Circling around a question, and a facilitator's practice

  • Triads and large group reflection

Between sessions

  • Daily journal question practice

  • Preparation/ Reading (shared google drive):

    • chapters 10–12 of Peter Block's Community: The Structure of Belonging (PDF available

    • handouts or videos from other teachers'

  • A weekly practice using that week's question

  • One outside meeting over the course of the 6 weeks, with 2–3 classmates to self-direct a clearness committee

This is not a project group

You won't be facilitated into a group project here. You're the main actor. You bring your own group, your own action, your own question — and we'll form a short term community of practice  sharpening our skills in facilitating.

If you can name a group or issue you convene others around — or plan to — this is for you.

Designed for leaders, clergy, facilitators, coaches, and community builders, this course supports anyone preparing to guide a group, initiative, or project. You bring your real‑world context; we cultivate the presence that frees others to answer and act for themselves.

This Class is For…

  • Leaders, clergy (imams, rabbis, pastors, chaplains), coaches, and facilitators

  • Anyone about to lead a group, an action, or a project

  • Transformational figures — people who've accepted that their own transformation can move families, organizations, and systems

  • People building a community or neighborhood initiative

  • Hive fellows whose capstone project involves at least two other people

Intention of the Hive

When you join a Hive experience, you're invited into our intention to create a group experience that's inclusive, rooted in mindfulness, and dynamically relational. We aspire for each Hive experience to model these intentions, and even to refine them as we continue to learn how to gather in a way that's transformative! The embodiment of these intentions by Hive facilitators, Members, and class participants is what makes the Hive the unique and healing social container that many experience it to be.
