The Body Sings: Group Singing as Embodied Presence, Protest, and Belonging (In-Person)
When we sing together, something remarkable happens: we feel each other’s resonance in our bodies—the shared vibration in our chests, the sound moving through the room, the fleeting yet deeply physical thing we create as a group.
Communal singing is one of humanity’s oldest practices for connection, meditation, and resistance. It slows us down, expands our breath, and invites our whole selves into the moment. And one of its greatest gifts is that you don’t need to be a “good” singer to belong. Your presence is enough.
In this class, you’ll learn simple songs by heart, experiment with harmony, and experience the grounding, enlivening power of group singing with local teacher Alice Connor. Come as you are, and let your voice join the circle.
This class is for you if:
Want to experience a deeply embodied sense of connection through shared sound and breath
Crave a grounding practice that helps regulate your nervous system and invites your whole body into presence
See group singing as a gentle but powerful form of protest against a culture that values productivity over humanity
Long for a welcoming space where skill doesn’t matter and every voice belongs
Want to explore harmony, simple songs, and the joy of creating something ephemeral together
Are drawn to practices that nurture embodiment, resonance, and authentic communal experience
Intention of the Hive
When you join a Hive experience, you're invited into our intention to create a group experience that's inclusive, rooted in mindfulness, and dynamically relational. We aspire for each Hive experience to model these intentions, and even to refine them as we continue to learn how to gather in a way that's transformative! The embodiment of these intentions by Hive facilitators, Members, and class participants is what makes the Hive the unique and healing social container that many experience it to be.
