Description
Contemplating Collapse: Analyzing the moment, Grieving Loss, Resurrecting Hope
We live in a time in which our expectations about our institutions as well as our beliefs about modern civilization are rapidly changing. There is a temptation to confront these unprecedented pressures from a place of fear, protective isolation, and self-interested “preparation.” But it is equally possible to see “collapse”--however one may define the word--as an opportunity for humanity to drastically reenvision and reconstruct the economic, political, ecological, educational institutions, ideologies and systems that have led us into our current predicament.
The class will be split into three parts:
A deep dive into some of the many interlocking predicaments we find ourselves in: political, economic, ecological, and perhaps most importantly, that of energy scarcity
Acknowledgement of and ways to process the grief and pain that will inevitably arise when our way of life, with all its problems but also beauty, is forced to change
Communal brainstorming and idea-sharing about how to best start living into the coming shift--whether psychologically, emotionally, or practically--with creativity, flexibility, and humility.
Every session will contain a mix of “content,” conversation, and somatic exercises to integrate the concepts and experience. There may be an invitation to listen to a podcast or read something between weeks, though it will never be required to participate.
This Class is For You If…
You believe that some kind of societal “collapse,” or at least a great simplification of the way our modern civilization functions, is likely approaching
You are interested in envisioning, in community, strategies of resilience that will help us not only survive, but also contribute to a post-collapse world that is more humane, sustainable, and conducive to the well-being of people and the planet.
Feel the ground shifting beneath our political, economic, ecological, or energy systems
Want to respond to uncertainty with curiosity rather than fear or isolation
Need space to process the grief, discomfort, or tenderness that comes with societal change
Want to imagine new ways of living and relating with creativity, humility, and community
Value learning that blends content, conversation, and embodied/somatic practice
Intention of the Hive
When you join a Hive experience, you're invited into our intention to create a group experience that's inclusive, rooted in mindfulness, and dynamically relational. We aspire for each Hive experience to model these intentions, and even to refine them as we continue to learn how to gather in a way that's transformative! The embodiment of these intentions by Hive facilitators, Members, and class participants is what makes the Hive the unique and healing social container that many experience it to be.
