Description

In the previous Hive class, “Awakening Meaning in a Disoriented Age”, we explored how the modern world gave us extraordinary clarity, power, and scientific insight — but also left many people feeling fragmented, disconnected, and trapped inside a flat way of seeing reality. In this new course, we will turn to Albert Einstein as someone who helped break open that modern frame from within science itself. Einstein did not simply give us new equations. He challenged the assumption that any person can stand outside reality with a complete and absolute perspective.

At the same time, relativity is not relativism. Einstein was not saying that truth disappears or that “anything goes.” Instead, he opened up a deeper way of understanding reality as relational, participatory, and far more mysterious than the modern worldview had imagined. Using A Theory of Everything (That Matters): A Brief Guide to Einstein, Relativity, and His Surprising Thoughts on God by Alister McGrath as a companion text, we will explore these ideas through conversation, contemplative practice, and reflection on our own experience. Together we will ask: What kinds of people — and what kinds of communities — become possible once certainty gives way to deeper participation in reality?

Familiarity with John Vervaeke's "Awakening from the Meaning Crisis" is helpful but not required. This is a stand alone class.

This Class Is for You If…

  • You sense that the modern worldview—brilliant as it is—doesn’t fully account for the depth, mystery, or relational nature of reality.

  • You’re curious how Einstein’s insights can help loosen the grip of the “absolute perspective” and open a more participatory way of knowing.

  • You want to explore the difference between relativity and relativism, and how truth can remain meaningful without being rigid.

  • You’re drawn to conversations and contemplative practices that bridge science, spirituality, and lived experience.

  • You’re interested in what becomes possible—for individuals and communities—when certainty softens and deeper forms of connection and meaning emerge.

Intention of the Hive

When you join a Hive experience, you're invited into our intention to create a group experience that's inclusive, rooted in mindfulness, and dynamically relational. We aspire for each Hive experience to model these intentions, and even to refine them as we continue to learn how to gather in a way that's transformative! The embodiment of these intentions by Hive facilitators, Members, and class participants is what makes the Hive the unique and healing social container that many experience it to be.
