Description

Many people today feel unmoored—disconnected, anxious, or unsure where they belong—even as we live in a time of extraordinary knowledge and technological advancement. This course explores why so many experience this sense of disorientation and how we arrived at a cultural moment where meaning, purpose, and “home” in the world feel harder to access.

Drawing inspiration from John Vervaeke’s Awakening from the Meaning Crisis and the philosophical, religious, and cultural developments it traces, the course looks at how modern and post‑modern ways of understanding reality reshaped our sense of self. We’ll explore how Enlightenment rationality, the decline of shared narratives, and the fragmentation of contemporary life contributed to a widespread existential crisis—and why many of our inherited frameworks no longer help us feel grounded or connected.

Rather than offering a belief system or quick solutions, this course invites participants into practices that help restore meaning through attention, reflection, and shared inquiry. We’ll experiment with simple exercises drawn from ancient wisdom traditions, contemplative practice, and integral thinkers like Jean Gebser to explore what a “post‑postmodern” way of being might look like—one that reconnects us with depth, presence, and a renewed sense of belonging.

Open to people of any faith background or none, this course offers a supportive space to understand the roots of our cultural moment and to explore practical ways of cultivating orientation, purpose, and connection in a complex world.

This Class Is for You If…

  • You’re curious why meaning, purpose, and orientation feel harder to access today—even with so much information at our fingertips.

  • You want to understand how modern and post‑modern ways of thinking reshaped our sense of self, community, and “home” in the universe.

  • You’re drawn to big questions about consciousness, culture, and human development but don’t want a course that pushes a belief system.

  • You’re interested in John Vervaeke’s work or the broader “meaning crisis” conversation and want a guided, communal way to explore it.

  • You appreciate learning that weaves together ancient wisdom, philosophy, psychology, and contemplative practice.

  • You’re open to exploring ideas from thinkers like Jean Gebser and integral consciousness as ways of moving beyond fragmentation.

  • You value conversation, curiosity, and community over quick fixes or rigid answers.

  • You’re seeking a space to explore meaning in a way that honors your background—religious, spiritual, secular, or none at all.

Intention of the Hive

When you join a Hive experience, you're invited into our intention to create a group experience that's inclusive, rooted in mindfulness, and dynamically relational. We aspire for each Hive experience to model these intentions, and even to refine them as we continue to learn how to gather in a way that's transformative! The embodiment of these intentions by Hive facilitators, Members, and class participants is what makes the Hive the unique and healing social container that many experience it to be.
